Xavier Finds a Fulfilling New Career

Share

There can be a lot of pressure on young adults to attend college and follow a traditional career path. For some people, like Xavier, career pathways are journeys of self-discovery.

Xavier’s goal is to find purpose and fulfillment in his life. He explored several different paths, including auto mechanics and computer engineering. He found he needed a career that provided an opportunity to be creative and hands-on.

In search of this, Xavier enrolled in Second Harvest's Culinary Training Program

“I found a love for the kitchen that I didn’t know I had,” said Xavier after enrolling in Second Harvest’s Culinary Training Program.

The free, 16-week course allowed Xavier to explore the many facets of working in a commercial kitchen. He coordinated with others to ensure his dishes were delicious and on time, from preparing different cuisines to using new equipment. His favorite lesson was learning to make pasta from scratch.

“I’m thankful for the coaching aspect and the nurturing environment,” said Xavier. “The instructors get to know us one-on-one and provide feedback.”

The supportive atmosphere and life skill lessons are beneficial as Xavier prepares to enter the culinary industry. He is learning to work with others, practicing patience and applying time management.

“Knowledge is power,” says Xavier as he embarks on his career journey. The first stop is working at a local resort hotel. “I would tell anyone to take this opportunity.”

For Xavier, the program allowed him to explore a career path that opened new doors to a bright and fulfilling future in food service.

The Culinary Training Program is transforming lives.
