Finding Your “Help Mode”

Share

At the height of the pandemic, Dona started hearing more about food insecurity – when a person doesn’t have the means to access nutritious food on a regular basis – and how this can have a negative impact on their physical, emotional, social and mental well-being.

Through some research, Dona found Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and was drawn to the vision of inspiring and engaging our community to end hunger. She became a Meal Maker, knowing that each month her gift would provide 4 meals for every dollar donated.

“I wanted to do more – more for my local community,” explained Dona. “I went into ‘help’ mode.”

Dona read about other ways to get involved at www.feedhopenow.org. She became a volunteer and experienced how the warehouse operates to efficiently move much-needed food out into the community. Through her regular volunteer commitment, she met like-minded people and stepped up to be a Volunteer Captain, helping lead projects in the warehouse.

She recently looked at the website to see if there were other ways she could help. One that stood out was to include Second Harvest in estate plans.

“Food insecurity is an ongoing issue, and I want to make this part of my legacy,” said Dona. “I sincerely hope you will consider more ways to leave your mark on hunger.”

Positive change begins by taking action.
