Teresa Gives Back to Her Hometown

Having lived in Orlando for most of her life, Teresa’s connection with the community runs deep. After retiring, Teresa was searching for meaningful ways to spend her time and stumbled upon Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. Intrigued and motivated by the opportunity to help others, Teresa decided to visit the food bank. Little did she know that the visit would mark the beginning of a truly transformative journey.
Combating Childhood Hunger with Nutritious Meals This Summer

For most kids, summer is a time away from the stress of school and full of sun-soaked adventure. But for others, it highlights a harsh reality. In Central Florida, one in five kids are facing hunger, an issue that is compounded when schools close for summer break.
That’s why Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida works with local parks and recreation centers, summer camps, and libraries to provide free meals for kids and teens each summer.
Orlando Gifted Academy Students Take a Stand Against Hunger in Central Florida

Middle school students from Orlando Gifted Academy showcased the power of compassion and the desire to make a positive impact, regardless of age.
It all started with a service-learning class taught by Mary Anne Dunne, service learning middle school teacher at Orlando Gifted Academy. In the course, students discuss societal issues within the Orlando area and research solutions. Following a discussion about homelessness and hunger in Central Florida, the students wrote proposals and voted on ways to give back to the community—many of the initiatives they chose supported Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida
