Quality time as a couple is important. John Giddens, a retired Disney employee of 35 years, and his wife Dawn, who loves sewing and embroidery, have been volunteering together at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida almost every week for the past three years!

Spending his winter seasons here in Central Florida and summers in New York, Bob enjoys the sunshine Central Florida provides and volunteering with local organizations that support children in the community, including A Gift for Teaching, Give Kids the World and Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.

A Spotlight on Food Rescue During Food Waste Prevention Week

Here’s some food for thought: According to the US Department of Agriculture, nearly 131 billion pounds of food are discarded in the United States annually at the retail and consumer levels. This frightful number is equivalent to about 109 billion meals. With 1 in 8 Central Florida neighbors facing hunger, this wasted food has the potential to nourish lives.

Tony’s dedication makes an impact

Tony Pelham, a retired software engineer turned writer and comedic playwright, traded computer flight simulations and virtual worlds for helping his community. Now a part of his weekly routine, Tony proudly wears his Second Harvest t-shirt and devotes his time to helping families facing hunger in Central Florida.

“Freedom from hunger is one of the most important things to maintain in people and their families’ lives,” expresses Tony.
