One of the essential pillars of fighting hunger is inspiring and engaging the community to join the movement. Since 2019, young charitable professionals aged 21-40 have dedicated themselves to making a difference through volunteerism, philanthropy, professional development, and advocacy in support of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
“It's about how we can give back to the food bank, the community, and each other through our careers and other endeavors,” explains Daniel Betancourt, founding chairman of the food bank’s Young Professionals Committee.
Through various initiatives, from trivia nights to professional development sessions and volunteer activities, the Young Professionals Committee engages a younger demographic and makes a positive impact for local neighbors facing hunger. Last year alone, 53 members raised funds to provide more than 72,000 meals. That's the power of change in action.
“There's a new generation that is determined to keep helping our neighbors,” Daniel says, adding, “We’re only just getting started, that’s the most exciting part.”
