You Help Keep Food on the Table

When Tracie and her family moved from Michigan to Groveland, they were hoping for a happy life in a warmer climate. Just weeks after settling into a new home and enrolling the kids in a new school, Tracie lost her job, while her husband was still searching for work.

“My heart sank,” Tracie says. They had used all their savings to move to Florida. “I remember thinking, ‘Where are we going to get food?’”

Every day across Central Florida, one in seven neighbors faces hunger. It can be as simple as an emergency car repair or an unexpected job loss that takes a family from a place of stability to uncertainty. Thanks to your support, kids, families and seniors can turn to Second Harvest and more than 800 local partners for help keeping food on the table.

Tracie found a warm welcome and help at a local food pantry supported by Second Harvest. For several weeks, all their meals came from the pantry. Every chicken breast and cucumber made a difference, helping them get by until both she and her husband found new jobs.

“We still live paycheck to paycheck, but Second Harvest has really helped us,” Tracie said. “You’re not just giving food, you’re giving hope. Thank you.”
