Stories of Hope

You are serving up smiles this summer

Classic summer activities center around food, like grilling hamburgers at a family barbeque, roasting sโ€™mores at summer camp, or the watermelon eating contest at Fourth of July celebrations. However, for one in seven of your Central Florida neighbors, summer activities are riddled with anxiety, worry and gut-wrenching financial decisions, especially at the grocery store.

For hardworking families, adding weekday breakfast and lunch back into the budget for kids home from school is enough to send them into a tailspin. With persistently high food prices, this summer is proving hard on parents and kids alike. But there is something to smile about.

Your support of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida relieves the pressure on families facing hunger. Children aged 18 and under can enjoy free breakfast and lunch this summer at 65 community centers, parks, and recreation sites in five counties.

I love the chicken and pasta,โ€ says Talia. โ€œReally, I love all the food I get here.โ€

Talia and her sister enjoy lunch at a park in Kissimmee. Monday through Friday, they receive familiar, kid-friendly menu items like chicken pitas and ham and cheese croissants paired with fresh fruit and milk. Lunchtime is their favorite because they spend time with their friends before a busy afternoon of games and swimming.

Thanks to you, more kids are making memorable moments instead of worrying about their next meal. You are serving up smiles (and full plates) this summer.

Create more smiles.

Every dollar donated to Second Harvest provides 4 meals – and hope!
