Students Eat Healthy with Your Help

Share

Three days a week, Nikolas and seven of his classmates stock the shelves at a School Market. The market is a resource for students to select the food items they need, from a quick snack to pasta to make for dinner that evening.

โ€œIโ€™ve gone through hard times,โ€ explains Nikolas, a local high senior. โ€œPeople donโ€™t think of food as something students need. Backpacks and pencils, yes, but not food.โ€

Nikolas and his friends work to remove the stigma of asking for help and create a welcoming place for their peers to pick up items like soup, pasta, beans, peanut butter, and canned vegetables, all for free. Once a month, students can take home fresh produce too.

If we didnโ€™t offer the market, there are kids whose only meal would be school lunch.
