Student Learns Valuable Job Skills at School Market

Share

“I have learned to appreciate all the opportunities given to me and not to take things for granted,” says Bianca, the student manager at The Trojan Market at Evans High School in Orlando.

As part of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida’s School Partnerships Program, Bianca and her fellow student volunteers provide their peers with the food resources they need to be successful in class and at home. She manages the market inventory, restocks shelves, sorts donations, and assists with a monthly fresh produce giveaway.

“The Trojan Market is truly an incredible resource for families, students, and staff,” says Bianca. “Having the opportunity to be the manager and see firsthand its impact here is the best part. I would thank our funders a million times for making this possible.”

When Bianca began her journey as a freshman volunteer three years ago, she could not have foreseen the profound impact The Trojan Market would have on her. The experience not only honed her leadership, integrity, organization, and teamwork skills but also paved the way for a summer job at a local supermarket.

“My experience helped me prepare for the interview,” says Bianca. “The skills I practiced by overseeing the market organization and structure gave me confidence to know I would make a great addition to the team.”

As Bianca embarks on her final year of high school, she eagerly anticipates the opportunity to apply the skills she gained from her supermarket job back at The Trojan Market. Her focus is not just on the present but also on her professional journey beyond graduation.

“My career goal is to have a job I love. I want to be able to walk in and efficiently do my job and walk out happy at the end of the day,” says Bianca.

School Partnerships help students thrive in the classroom, and beyond.
