Grant from Ford Motor Company Fund to Expand Access to Food Across Central Florida

Share

A grant from Ford Motor Company Fund will support Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida in expanding access to fresh food in Central Florida. The $100,000 investment will be used towards scaling mobility solutions that bridge the gap between access to food and transportation.

Forty-four million people in America, including more than 13 million children, face hunger. In Central Florida, thatโ€™s one in eight individuals and one in five children.

โ€œSecond Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida continues to distribute enough food for 300,000 meals a day,โ€ said Derrick Chubbs, President and CEO. โ€œAs the heightened demand for food assistance persists, we are grateful for the support of Ford Fund in making it easier to connect our neighbors facing hunger to fresh and nutritious food needed to thrive.โ€

With this grant, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida plans to expand its fleet with a vehicle to enhance its home delivery programs. The funding will impact neighbors with mobility issues, food insecurity and at least one chronic illness by helping transport nutritious meals that support positive health outcomes. Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is one of 10 partner food banks in the Feeding Americaยฎ network to receive a mobility innovation grant from Ford Fund. The $1 million investment is dispersed amongst food banks in Fordโ€™s plant cities.

Join the movement to end hunger in Central Florida.
