Nutrition has the power to help individuals and communities thrive. During National Nutrition Month, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is sharing its Food is Medicine approach to improving long- and short-term health outcomes.
โThe whole intention is nutrition, making sure that our neighbors have the most nutrient-dense food they can get,โ says Maureen Hawkins, director of health and hunger strategies.

In addition to expanding access to nutritious food, Second Harvest's nutrition education team hosts classes, workshops, and demonstrations at food pantries, community centers, and other locations across seven counties through Florida Nutrition Ed.
โIt's so important to teach nutrition education out in the community, because food is something we eat every single day,โ explains Morgan Barnard, a nutrition educator with Second Harvest, adding that the more neighbors know about what they are putting in their bodies, the healthier everyone in our community can be.
Whether you volunteer, donate or advocate for access to nutritious foods, your support makes a powerful difference that impacts the health and well-being of kids, families and seniors.
