Finding Your “Help Mode”

Share

At the height of the pandemic, Dona started hearing more about food insecurity – when a person doesnโ€™t have the means to access nutritious food on a regular basis – and how this can have a negative impact on their physical, emotional, social and mental well-being.

Through some research, Dona found Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and was drawn to the vision of inspiring and engaging our community to end hunger. She became a Meal Maker, knowing that each month her gift would provide 4 meals for every dollar donated.

โ€œI wanted to do more โ€“ more for my local community,โ€ explained Dona. โ€œI went into โ€˜helpโ€™ mode.โ€

Dona read about other ways to get involved at www.feedhopenow.org. She became a volunteer and experienced how the warehouse operates to efficiently move much-needed food out into the community. Through her regular volunteer commitment, she met like-minded people and stepped up to be a Volunteer Captain, helping lead projects in the warehouse.

I wanted to do more โ€“ more for my local community,โ€

She recently looked at the website to see if there were other ways she could help. One that stood out was to include Second Harvest in estate plans.

โ€œFood insecurity is an ongoing issue, and I want to make this part of my legacy,โ€ said Dona. โ€œI sincerely hope you will consider more ways to leave your mark on hunger.โ€

Positive change begins by taking action.

How will you leave your mark on hunger?
