Feeding Hearts Through Harmony: Messiah Choral Society’s Virtual Food Drive Success

Share

Singing praises and serving the community. Thatโ€™s the work of the Messiah Choral Society. One of the ways they proudly serve each year is by hosting a Virtual Food Drive with Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. What started as a traditional food drive 10 years ago has now taken on a virtual component due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

โ€œIn 2020 our live, in-person concert was cancelled due to the pandemic, but the group still wanted to give back and support hunger relief during the holidays,โ€ says Elaine Pancake, Choral member and virtual food drive coordinator. โ€œWe transitioned to a virtual food drive and have continued with the virtual effort even though the performances are back in person.โ€

Giving online is so easy”

The group, made up of over 100 performers, has raised over $6,500 since they started their virtual food drive in 2020, providing more than 26,000 meals to our neighbors facing hunger in Central Florida.

โ€œThereโ€™s a great need for food in Central Florida,โ€ adds Elaine. โ€œGiving online is so easy. And every contribution in any amount makes a difference. We like being a part of that.โ€

The Messiah Choral Societyโ€™s annual virtual food drive is on now.

A virtual food drive is a great way to make an immediate impact on our neighbors facing hunger. For every $10 raised, Second Harvest Food Bank can provide 40 meals to families, seniors and children.
