Stories of Hope

“Everything is going up.”

“Everything is going up: rent, food, gas, water, light bills,” says Amanda, a resilient mom in Kissimmee who recently visited a mobile food distribution to pick up food for her family.

Second Harvest continues to distribute enough food for 300,000 meals a day through a network of 750 feeding partners across seven counties and at mobile food distributions, like the one seen in the News 13 story below.

Amanda's story is not uncommon. Like many others, she is grappling with the harsh reality of high inflation. The mounting costs keep her awake at night and she worries about the impact on her two autistic sons. Her situation is a stark reminder of the critical relief provided by Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida supporters, volunteers, and partners.

The relentlessly high cost of essential bills, including groceries, is pushing more and more people to seek help with food assistance. Last month, Second Harvest's online Food Finder tool, which assists neighbors in locating food pantries and distributions in their community, recorded 14,300 searches, a 102% surge compared to the previous month. This stark increase underscores the urgent need for continued support.

A Summer Match Challenge is one way to provide critical relief for kids and families facing hunger. For a limited time, every donation doubles to provide twice as many nutritious meals for local neighbors.

“It's a weight off my shoulders,” Amanda says as she drives away with a car filled with groceries and a renewed sense of stability and hope.

Double the hope this summer.
