Empowering Communities, Fighting Hunger: Second Harvest’s Partner Network Conference

Share

Recently, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida hosted its 2023 Partner Network Conference at Calvary Assembly in Winter Park. The annual event was made possible by support from Aetna.

The theme this year was “Calling All Hunger Heroes” and the day was spent celebrating the amazing impact of the network of 625 feeding partners do every day.

The conference brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, volunteers, and feeding partners to share insights, knowledge, and experiences in their collective mission to combat food insecurity. With a packed agenda, the conference provided attendees with valuable opportunities to network, learn from experts, and explore innovative strategies in their quest to make a positive impact for our neighbors facing hunger.

The day kicked off with a keynote speech delivered by Colette McLeod, a Licensed Therapist, Educator, and Consultant. Colette asked agency leaders an important question: “From what place are you helping?” She shared powerful real-life stories and practical insights, emphasizing the significance of a collaborative approach and trauma-informed care in addressing food insecurity and building stronger communities.

Attendees had the opportunity to attend a variety of workshops on grant funding, volunteer recruitment, data integration, home delivery operations and storytelling strategies.

Later, participants networked and explored various information tables, deepening connections with partners and discovering valuable resources. Attendees then joined breakout sessions based on their respective county service area and engaged in discussions and shared experiences, fostering localized approaches to fighting hunger. Partners in Seminole County for example, discussed transportation barriers and the impacts of the 2020 census on grant distributions.

Overall, Second Harvest's Agency Conference was a resounding success, bringing together individuals and organizations passionate about fighting hunger and strengthening their communities. Through insightful workshops, inspiring keynotes, and collaborative networking opportunities, agencies gained valuable knowledge and tools to drive positive change. The event demonstrated the power of collective action in the battle against food insecurity and showcased the dedication and passion of everyone involved in the fight for a hunger-free Central Florida.

With renewed motivation, attendees left the conference empowered to make a lasting impact in their communities, embodying the spirit of “We not Me.” As Second Harvest Food Bank continues its tireless efforts to create a healthier and hunger-free region, the conference served as a powerful reminder that change starts with each individual and organization coming together for a common cause. Together, we can make a difference, one meal at a time.

Together we are nourishing lives through a powerful hunger relief network.
