Healthy Eating Starts Early

In partnership with Florida Nutrition Ed, Second Harvest offers nutrition education classes to help Central Florida residents incorporate more nutritious foods into their diet, adopt an active lifestyle, prevent chronic disease, manage a healthy weight and improve their quality of life. The program provides free classes in Brevard, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Volusia counties.

Classes are available for all age groups, including youth and teens, families with children, adults and seniors. Topics range from how to read nutrition labels, healthy eating on a budget, how to manage chronic health issues, maintaining a healthy gut, and much more.

Project VEGGIE Aims to Curb Picky Eating

Getting kids to eat vegetables can be challenging, but increasing their exposure to fresh produce may help.

A health education and behavior professor from the University of Florida has launched a research project to find out.

Project VEGGIE (Vegetable Eating Gets Going with Increased Exposure) is a 12-week pilot program that brings together Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida in partnership with UF Professor Dr. Layton Reeser-Oyer, the Early Learning Coalition of Orange County and volunteers from the University of Central Florida.

On a Mission: Women Who Fight Hunger

The daily fight against hunger in Central Floridians is in no small part made possible because of women on a mission.

Showing up and rolling up their sleeves to volunteer, addressing the dietary needs of neighbors facing hunger AND chronic illness, or planning the organization’s signature fundraising events are women committed to combatting food insecurity.

This National Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida recognizes and celebrates some of the women making history in the fight against hunger.

Community Partnerships Fight Hunger, Spark Change

While the Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign runs for a limited time each spring, year-round support from Walmart and Sam’s Clubs is instrumental in providing meals and hope daily to kids, families and seniors across Central Florida.

From now through March 31, local shoppers can help generate funding and resources for Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. There are three ways to participate.
