Hope endures, even during a shutdown

The 43-day long federal government shutdown disrupted the lives of federal workers and contractors, military families and SNAP recipients, among others. As the community’s largest emergency food provider, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is no stranger to responding to crises or the daily disaster of hunger. The food bank went into overdrive to distribute as much fresh, frozen and nonperishable food as possible through feeding partners, mobile distributions and special, targeted events for federal workers.

As more people turn to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and its network of feeding partners for support this year, supporters like Winn-Dixie and the Winn-Dixie Gives Foundation are helping to ensure everyone can feel a sense of hope while sharing a meal together.

School Partnerships Program Expands in Volusia County

With one in six children at risk of experiencing hunger on any given day in Central Florida, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida recently expanded its School Partnerships Program in Volusia County.

Four public schools and three post-secondary schools in Volusia have started working with Second Harvest to implement a stigma-reducing operational model that best serves the needs of their students.
