Disaster Relief Hits the Road

Less than 48 hours after Hurricane Ian swept through Central Florida, Second Harvest’s semi-truck pulled into the parking lot at The Rock Church in Kissimmee for its first post-hurricane food distribution. More than 90 cars snaked through the parking lot, waiting for the food they needed to refill their pantries.

Hurricane Ian: One Week Later

It’s been a week since Hurricane Ian destroyed parts of our community. There is still flooding in areas of Central Florida and families continue to reach out for food assistance.

Since the storm hit, food distribution has returned to the level we experienced at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic – enough food for 300,000 meals a day. That’s 75,000 additional meals needed every day compared to the months before the storm, and this heightened need could last for several weeks or even longer.

Today, your help is urgently needed to continue providing healthy, nutritious meals to families, kids and seniors affected by the storm.
