Glow Sisters are “Getting Results” by Volunteering, Donating and Hosting Virtual Food Drives

Cassie and Sabrina Glow are two teenagers who use their voices to help fight food insecurity. They stand out because they don’t complete one volunteer activity and move on. They’ve become committed to the cause and look for ways to support their neighbors facing hunger.

The teen voice actors started by donating a portion of their earnings from Glow Girls Kid Voiceover to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. They came as a family to volunteer in the main Orlando warehouse too. They offered their professional services to be the voice of Second Harvest tv, radio and digital ads. Then, they started hosting virtual food drives when they wanted another way to get involved.

Inflation Continues to Impact Families in 2023

According to the latest Consumer Price Index report, inflation may have fallen for the seventh consecutive month. Still, grocery prices continue to rise – jumping 11.3% in January compared to last year.

Inflation’s lingering impact has many hard-working families making difficult decisions about which expenses are the most critical to cover first: Rent, utilities, gas, medicine or food. As WKMG Local 6 reports in a recent story, people began lining up at 5 a.m. for a food distribution in Orange County

Teen celebrates birthday with Virtual Food Drive

Recently Alex added a digital component to his volunteerism by organizing a virtual food drive for his 17th birthday. A virtual food drive is a simple way to connect with friends, family, co-workers, or community connections online and work together to support hunger relief efforts in Central Florida.

The Season of Sharing

Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) helped ease the burden of hunger for families this holiday season with their annual food distribution event. The 13th annual holiday food distribution event provided 3,400 families with enough food to provide 98,770 meals over the upcoming winter break.
