You are Mobilizing Hope

During Central Florida summers, pop-up thunderstorms come out of nowhere, drenching shoppers stranded without an umbrella. In the same way, temporary, short-term emergencies can arise for low-income families, sending them into a tailspin. The saying, “When it rains, it pours,” rings true for neighbors already living paycheck to paycheck and juggling a new health diagnosis, a surprise rent increase, or an unexpected car repair.

You are Brightening Summer Days

Summer is a time for sun and fun.

It is also a time of uncertainty for kids whose families are overwhelmed by inflated costs of living. Nearly half of Central Florida households live paycheck to paycheck, making it challenging to afford higher prices for housing, gas and groceries.

You brighten summer days for growing kids and anxious parents. Your support of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida enables a fleet of refrigerated trailers to traverse local roads and highways to deliver nutritious meals and snacks to kids in rural communities and under-resourced neighborhoods.

Transforming Lives: Dezmond’s Story

Dezmond could not resist the allure of culinary arts.

“Cooking allows me to be creative, and I love whipping up dishes for others,” says Dezmond.

His passion for cooking soared during the pandemic when he spent days devising ramen dishes at home. After high school, Dezmond learned about Second Harvest’s 16-week Culinary Training Program and enrolled to shape his love for cooking into a sustainable career.

Fight Summer Hunger from Your Computer with a Virtual Food Drive

With schools closing for summer break, breakfast and lunch are no longer on the table for thousands of children in Central Florida. One way to help bridge the gap and provide nutritious meals for kids and families this summer is by hosting a virtual food drive.
