Blessings Beyond the Box

Juan’s belief in the transformative power of the ministry is palpable. For him, it is about more than providing food; it is about creating a safe haven, lending a listening ear, and sharing a cup of coffee with a friend in need.
The power of the ministry lies in its partnerships. From the dedicated volunteers to the staff at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and the local Walmart Neighborhood Market associates, working together is crucial in the fight against hunger in Central Florida.
Duke Energy Foundation Grant Expands Perishable Food Distribution in Central Florida

“Making sure our neighbors have continued access to healthy meals goes well beyond the table,” said Derrick Chubbs, president and CEO at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. “Proper nutrition helps reduce the risk of some diseases while fueling our minds and bodies to manage daily activities, which is especially important for growing children. As summer approaches, this funding from Duke means our partners can better bridge a meal gap many families face when school is out.”
Sparking Change Through Volunteerism

“Anything I’ve done at Second Harvest has been a joy,” says Neishla, a local Walmart associate and veteran volunteer.
Neishla’s journey with Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida began when a coworker introduced her to the food bank as an opportunity to engage in team building through community service. For the last six years, Neishla has been fighting hunger by sorting food donations, preparing lunches and packing boxes of essential nonperishable foods for Central Florida neighbors facing hunger.
You Help Students Succeed

Everyone needs a helping hand sometimes. That’s an important lesson for all of us, especially the next generation.
That can look like tutoring for a math test, an extra set of eyes on a research paper, or sometimes, food to fuel student success.
