Nourishing children. Nourishing futures

Childhood hunger impacts one in five Central Florida kids. It not only keeps children from reaching their full potential but also significantly affects their health, development, and well-being. It can lead to poor academic performance, diet-related diseases, mental health issues and behavioral problems, creating challenges that can be difficult to overcome.
Michele’s Story

“Every day I wake up, I’m blessed,” says Michele.
Michele is a wife, a mother and a devoted volunteer. She lives in Orlando with her husband, Bill, a disabled veteran, and her autistic son. She also struggles with medical conditions that prevent her from working. With the inflated cost of rent, utilities, clothing and groceries, there were days Michele went without food to make sure her son could eat.
You are Mobilizing Hope

During Central Florida summers, pop-up thunderstorms come out of nowhere, drenching shoppers stranded without an umbrella. In the same way, temporary, short-term emergencies can arise for low-income families, sending them into a tailspin. The saying, “When it rains, it pours,” rings true for neighbors already living paycheck to paycheck and juggling a new health diagnosis, a surprise rent increase, or an unexpected car repair.
You are Brightening Summer Days

Summer is a time for sun and fun.
It is also a time of uncertainty for kids whose families are overwhelmed by inflated costs of living. Nearly half of Central Florida households live paycheck to paycheck, making it challenging to afford higher prices for housing, gas and groceries.
You brighten summer days for growing kids and anxious parents. Your support of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida enables a fleet of refrigerated trailers to traverse local roads and highways to deliver nutritious meals and snacks to kids in rural communities and under-resourced neighborhoods.
