Food is Learning

Childhood is a time for learning, growing, playing sports and dreaming of a bright future. But without consistent access to healthy, nutritious foods, hunger can derail a childhood. Kids facing hunger encounter significant challenges, including academic performance, physical health, and emotional well-being.
Your support makes it possible to fight childhood hunger in neighborhoods across Central Florida. By providing the next generation with kid-friendly meals and snacks year-round, you are investing in our future teachers, doctors, and community leaders.
Food is Success: Shavanee’s Story

“You can make something out of your life and enjoy your career,” says Shavanee, who graduated from high school without a clear career path. She knew she needed to work to help support her family, but with no work experience or skills training, the job search was an uphill battle.
She reflected on the vibrant flavors of childhood in Guyana and sought out Second Harvest’s Culinary Training Program to help hone her passion for cooking.
Young Professionals Committee Sparks Change

One of the essential pillars of fighting hunger is inspiring and engaging the community to join the movement. Since 2019, young charitable professionals aged 21-40 have dedicated themselves to making a difference through volunteerism, philanthropy, professional development, and advocacy in support of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
You Make Tomorrow Possible

In Central Florida, one in seven of our neighbors faces hunger due to root causes like working a low-wage job, the lack of affordable housing, and increased costs for everything from food to medicine. It is a heart-wrenching reality for moms like Vanessa, whose family was uprooted after Hurricane Ian and, despite being employed, finds it an uphill battle to secure housing near her job and children’s school.
