Every action makes a difference – and this September, during Hunger Action Month, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is calling on members of the community to take at least one action to help fight hunger.
Hunger Action Month, observed every September, is a reminder that no single action is enough on its own. When advocates, volunteers, donors, and community partners each play their part, their efforts create a ripple effect that strengthens our community. As the cost of essentials like groceries and energy continues to put pressure on household budgets, there are many ways for community members to take action to help ensure their neighbors have access to the food they need to thrive.

“Having enough food should never be something a family has to question – yet for too many of our neighbors, it has become a daily concern,” said Derrick Chubbs, President and CEO at Second Harvest. “This Hunger Action Month, we’re asking everyone to show up for their neighbors facing hunger and play their part. Whether you give, volunteer, speak up or support your community in another way, your action matters. When neighbors care for neighbors, we strengthen our communities.”
Farmers grow and harvest food that helps nourish communities. Advocates use their voices to help protect access to food. Volunteers pack and distribute meals. Donors provide critical support that helps food banks and pantries meet the needs of their neighbors.

This Hunger Action Month, you can play your part. Whether you give, volunteer, speak up or support your community in another way, your action matters.
- Give: Become a monthly donor or host a Fall Food and Fund Drive
- Get Involved: Sign up to volunteer, register for a “Food for Thought” tour or attend an event
- Advocate: Wear orange on Sept. 29 for Hunger Action Day or purchase “hunger fighter” merchandise to show support all year round
When we connect our efforts, small actions become part of something bigger: a future where everyone has access to the food they need to thrive.
