Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida’s Benefits Connection Program offers support throughout the application process for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Trained specialists assist individuals, families, seniors, veterans and persons with disabilities to ensure they have the help and support they need during this process.
What is SNAP?
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides financial nutrition benefits to supplement the grocery budget of individuals and families who may not have sufficient income to consistently eat healthy.
Eligible participants receive an EBT card, which works like a debit card. Funds are added each month and can be used to purchase food at grocery stores, farmers markets and other retail outlets.

- The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps, is the most effective and efficient federal nutrition program.Â
- For every meal provided by food banks like Second Harvest, SNAP provides nine meals.
- Every SNAP dollar spent generates $1.54 in economic activity within the local community.
Benefits Connection is a community partner of the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and acts as a liaison between the community and DCF.Â
Benefits Connection specialists can be found at community centers, libraries, food pantries and outreach events across Central Florida. Services are provided in multiple languages.
