Immigration & SNAP
- Can I apply if I’m not a U.S. citizen?
Yes, in many cases. If you’re a Legal Permanent Resident (green card holder), you may qualify after 5 years. Children born in the U.S. may also be eligible even if their parents are not citizens. - Will getting SNAP affect my immigration status?
No. Lawfully receiving SNAP will not impact your ability to get a green card, visa, or citizenship.
More on public charge and SNAP.
Transferring or Applying for Benefits
- Can I transfer my benefits from another state?
No. SNAP benefits do not transfer across states. You must cancel benefits in your previous state before applying in Florida. - Will Florida know if I received benefits elsewhere?
No. The ACCESS system does not track benefits from other states. You must contact the other state directly. - Can Benefits Connection help if I applied on my own?
No. If you applied independently through the MyACCESS portal, you'll need to contact DCF directly. Benefits Connection can only assist with applications submitted through our outreach program. - How long does the process take?
It can take up to 30 days, or longer if a disability determination is needed. - Who do I contact after applying with Benefits Connection?
The team member who helped you will give you instructions and contact info for follow-up. - When should I renew my benefits?
Submit your renewal before the 15th of the month your benefits end. Not earlier than 45 days before expiration.
