Matching Gifts
Many companies offer a matching gifts program to match charitable contributions made by their employees. Gifts from employees' spouses and retirees may also qualify for a match.
Please use the Double the Donation search tool below to find out if your employer has a matching gift program. If you volunteer with us, your company may also offer a volunteer grant program.
Have questions? Check out the Matching Gifts FAQ section below for more details.
Matching Gifts FAQ
What is a matching gift?
A matching gift is a type of corporate giving program where a company makes a gift to a charitable organization after an employee has made one. For example: You work for Company X and make a $25.00 gift to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. Once you have informed Company X that you've made your gift they will also give a $25.00 gift to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. This essentially doubles your giving!
Use the search tool above to see if your company will match your gift.
How do I request a matching gift?
Inform your employer and show proof that you have made a charitable donation. There are typically 3 steps:
- Donate: Make your personal donation and save your tax receipt. Many matching programs will allow for up to one year after you've made your donation to request a corporate match.
- Search: Using the search tool, find out if your company offers a matching gift program and review the guidelines. No results? Contact your HR department directly to ask if they offer a matching gift program.
- Match: Based on the information provided in the search results you will fill out a form to turn in to your employer requesting the match. We will be notified electronically or by mail to verify your gift.
I donated a few months ago. Can I still apply for a matching gift?
Yes! It's not too late to apply for a matching gift!
Many companies allow employees to submit match requests for specific periods of time after the gift has been made. The search tool should have those guidelines for your company.
What are volunteer grant programs?
Volunteer grant programs are when companies provide monetary donations to charitable organizations based on volunteer hours their employees have participated in. Each company has specific guidelines for their volunteer grant programs.
Use the search tool to see if your company offers this benefit and find everything you need to submit your volunteer time.
I didn't find my company on the search page. Now what?
Check with your company's HR manager and ask if your donation can be matched.
How is this information obtained?
We partner with a company called Double the Donation. If you see anything that should be changed, please email Double the Donation's team at data@doublethedonation.com.
