Sticker shock and stagnating high prices limit the purchasing power of hardworking families in Central Florida. As shoppers opt for less expensive and less nutritious food options to keep their plates and bellies full, it has short and long-term effects on health and well-being.
“It’s hard right now,” explained Kelli at a Second Harvest School Market event just before school let out for the summer. “The prices at the store are so high. We can’t keep adjusting our budget. Inflation just wipes us out.”
Thanks to the support of caring individuals like you, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida can distribute fresh, healthy produce through emergency food pantries, home delivery, and local school markets like the one Kelli visited. She filled a shopping bag with bananas, oranges, apples, corn and mushrooms.
This summer, Wawa is ensuring kids have access to the nutritious, wholesome food they need to thrive by providing reusable tote bags filled with fresh produce at more than 40 summer meal sites. This first-of-its-kind initiative expands access to fresh produce at a time when kids and families need it most.
